Zack Lynskey Scores First Pit Stop USA Winged 360 Triumph

~~PETALUMA, CA – July 26
Hot Petaluma temperatures led to a smooth sealed surface on Five Corners Automotive and Western Auto Body Night at Petaluma Speedway Saturday Night.  Sacramento’s Billy Butler blazed a rapid lap of 12.456 as he collected fast time honors in the Pit Stop USA Winged 360 Division.  Alissa Geving and Zack Lynskey were victorious in the pair of heat races.  Bradley Terrell got the better of Wayne Katen on the initial start of the 25-lap feature.  Lynskey vaulted past Butler and Katen in the first two circuits from his fourth starting positon and set sight on Terrell.  Terrell in his familiar family owned #43 dueled with Lynskey on laps six and seven before Lynskey, working his favored high line, cleared the defending track champion on lap eight.  Sixth starting Geving also got the better of Terrell on lap 11.  On the move was current point leader Herman Klein as he entered the top five on lap 16.  Lap 19 saw Jake Haulot loop his #7 for a quick caution.  This set the stage for the final segment to the checkers.  Many cars were veering onto the apron looking to cool their tires and on the restart it was all Lynskey could do to fend off a rapidly closing Geving.  On the final lap Geving dove very low in an effort to deliver the winning slide job.  However it was young lion Lynskey easing his orange #07n into victory lane for his first winged sprint car triumph over Geving, Klein, Terrell, and Butler.

Twenty-two modifieds signed in for round five of the Nor Cal Challenge IMCA Modified Tour Race.  Petaluma point leader Quick Nick DeCarlo, Chris Compton, and Ryan McDaniel captured the three preliminary heat races and DeCarlo backed it up with a win in the six-lap dash for cash.  The start of the 25-lap main saw Ryan McDaniel nail his entry into turn one and lead the field.  David Spriggs drew the first caution as he contacted the first turn wall on the second circuit.  On the lap three restart Brian Cass found traction as he passed Brian Azevedo, Tim Balding, and Anthony Slaney.  DeCarlo was shadowing Cass’ movements through the field from his ninth starting slot.  By the half way mark McDaniel looked strong as Cass disposed of Troy Foulger for second and DeCarlo was dueling with Randy McDaniel for fifth.  Lap 22 found Freddie Plourde pointing the wrong direction and set up the final run to the checkers.  Earning the hard fought win on the technical track surface was Ryan McDaniel over Cass, DeCarlo, Randy McDaniel, and Foulger.

A nice field of 18 dwarf cars took to the 3/8ths-mile oval in the Larsen Racing Products Dwarf Car Division.  Dave Mosier, Jack Haverty, and Josh Miller garnered the three, eight lap heats.  The 25-lap finale saw young David Teves earn his stripes at the front of the pack.  Mosier maneuvered to second from his fifth starting spot by the sixth stanza.  An epic three wide battle mid-pack ensued for several laps between Scooter Gomes, Haverty, and former track champion John Peters.  Gomes still on the move cleared Travis Dutra and Miller for third on the tenth lap.  The crowd shifted its attention to the lead duo as Mosier started to work over Teves first high and then low.  At the starter stand on the 17th lap Mosier finally out-powered Teves with a brilliant outside move.  On lap 22 Gomes pressing hard over-rotated and lost many spots.  At the finish it was Mosier the Discovery Bay Demon over Teves, Peters, Ed Sans III, and Miller.

Eden McCormick copped the Jake’s Performance Hobbies Mini Stocks heat race.  Danny Naron guided the field during the initial two main event laps before Pistol Pete Langley got the better of him.  Langley got crossed up and Kimberly Ramirez and Jake Fernandes collided exiting turn two necessitating a stoppage in the action.  Restarting up front was Naron who yielded to McCormick a lap later.  Rookie Bob Davis mounted a charge to third on the seventh lap and got by Naron on lap 10.  Naron fought back to get a brief piece of the lead on lap 18.  However McCormick was not to be out-done as he masterfully guided his four-banger Toyota to the win over the rapidly improving Naron.  Darien Balesteri was third over Davis and Snazzy Duckworth.
