PETALUMA SPEEDWAY TO HOST THE HIGH-POWERED KING OF THE WEST NARC SPRINT CARS
(6/11/17) Petaluma, CA … The lightening fast 3/8 mile oval of Petaluma Fairgrounds Speedway is set to host the 900-horsepower King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series on Saturday, June 17th.
Leading a contingent of 20 sprint car teams to Petaluma will be current championship point leader Giovanni Scelzi of Fresno. The red hot 15-year old driver has captured the past two KWS-NARC main events and three of the past four races. Despite his recent successes, his lead in the standings is only one-point (407-406) over Campbell’s Bud Kaeding.
Cory Eliason of Selma, who captured the season opener to hold the initial point lead, is only six points behind the leader. The King of the West-NARC points system rewards winning and overall consistency so there is little margin for error as the series enters the heart of its schedule.
Among the entries looking to steal some KWS-NARC victory lane glory from the traveling series stars is Auburn’s Andy Forsberg. The second generation driver is very familiar with the track, having captured 20 main events. Throughout his career, Forsberg has enjoyed immense success claiming 154 victories, including 34 in the premier 410 c.i. sprint car class. Of those, four were in the King of the West Series.
“I really enjoy racing at Petaluma,” explained Forsberg. I love the track surface because it’s kind of a throwback to what tracks used to be like.”
“My dad (Richard Forsberg) was a driver at the now defunct West Capital Raceway, so I joke that the track surfaces like West Capital are in my DNA,” he continued. “Petaluma is the only track that really give us those conditions anymore and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do there in a 410.”
Other driver’s committed to compete on Saturday is Australian champion Jamie Veal, who will be driving a car owned by 13-time series champion Brent Kaeding of Campbell. Also racing is Hanford’s DJ Netto, Michael Kofoid and Chase Johnson of Penngrove; Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan; Jarrett Soares of Discovery Bay; female driver Cori Andrews of Murrieta; Chico’s Brad Bumgarner and Atwater drivers Sean Watts and Nathan Rolfe.
The program includes qualifying, three 10-lap heat races, the six-lap Hoosier Tires Dash; followed by the 30-lap high stakes Fujitsu Sprint Car Series headliner.
Pit gates open at noon. Front gates open at 4:00 p.m. Also on the racing card is Super Stocks, 600’s and Mini-Stocks.
